Professional Ethics – Not Just for Agents is a 4-hour continuing education course addressing the topic of professional ethics for insurance producers.

The first hour includes a discussion of the value of maintaining a high ethical standard in the delivery of insurance services and the principles of professional ethics—Competence, Integrity, Fairness, Diligence, Professionalism and Confidentiality—on which such a standard should be based.

The second hour focuses on the application of the ethical principles discussed in the previous session to the requirement for product suitability and full client disclosure.

In the third hour, the ethical principles are applied to the insurance producers’ sales tools and the insurance sales process.

The last hour of the course is devoted to the participants’ application of the ethical principles to various fact patterns depicting situations that could occur in a producer’s day-to-day activities. Participants analyze the situations depicted in the scenarios, identify the ethical concerns and prescribe appropriate agent actions. When the participant analysis has been completed, the instructor discusses the scenario and identifies the ethical issues.

Each session begins with an introduction in which the instructor identifies the topics to be discussed and concludes with a summary of the topics addressed in the session.
