Instructor Certification Training

Instructor Certification Training, available to IAIP members only, is designed to certify members who want to instruct IAIP courses. The first step in becoming certified is purchasing and reviewing the Train the Trainer course. Topics presented in this course include adult learning theory, delivery tips for classroom and virtual presentations, and an overview of IAIP instructor course guides. After completing Train the Trainer, additional criteria apply.

Steps to IAIP Instructor Certification

  • Attend a live Train the Trainer session or complete the course by Self-Study.

  • Attend a live course you want to teach OR purchase and complete the applicable self-study or instructor course. Course guide can also be obtained by a sponsoring or hosting association for an IAIP event.
  • Successful passing of the online quiz for CLP*, CLP Renewal or Selling Essential Courses is required for completion.
    * CLP recipients who received their designation from the original CLP courses and who are Certified Instructors have the option of not taking course quiz before teaching the class. The course quiz is not optional for teaching renewal courses. It is recommended, however, that instructors complete the course quiz for all CLP courses to confirm content learned, identify points to emphasize in class and gain IAIP education hours.
  • Work and subject matter experience and expertise in the course for instruction is required for ICAN! Series and insurance industry courses.
  • Email the IAIP Director of Education the name of the completed CLP, Selling Essentials, Career Development or I CAN! Series courses you want to teach. They will be added to the Certified Trainers listing.
  • Co-teach with a seasoned instructor who will recommend being a new instructor to teach independently. If no seasoned instructor is available in or around your area, inquire about opportunities to teach at Council, Regional or International meetings. (Recommended but not required.)
  • Maintain current, active IAIP membership.
  • Continuing as an instructor is subject to your evaluations from the class you taught going forward.
We encourage you to become certified or use an IAIP Certified Trainer for your next event. We understand, however, that an IAIP Certified Trainer may not always be in close proximity. If this is your situation, for courses other than CLP, CLP Renewal and Selling Essentials, local associations are not required to use an IAIP Certified Trainer. If a Certified Trainer is not available for CLP, CLP Renewal and Selling Essentials, Self-Study versions of these courses are available.
