Make it a Family Vacation

For families craving adventure, Reno Tahoe is a no-brainer. The destination is timeless and offers fun for the whole family. Ready to plan that summer vacation?

The best way to beat the heat in Reno Tahoe is to get in the water. The Truckee River Whitewater Park downtown is a 1/2 mile long, consists of 11 drop-pools, and your kids will love it! Located just south of Incline Village along the rugged eastern shoreline of Lake Tahoe is Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. There are plenty of boulders for the kids to jump off of or rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore beyond the shoreline. Pack a lunch in a dry bag, jumped on a couple of paddleboards, and paddle to the famous Bonsai Rock for a picnic lunch.

Hiking in Reno Tahoe is something the whole family can enjoy. Stateline Fire Lookout in Crystal Bay and Monkey Rock near Incline Village – both offer rewarding views of the lake and are easily accessible from Reno.

Take your family for a bike ride along the Truckee River. Make an afternoon of it with a stop at Idlewild Park. Satisfy that sweet tooth at Dorinda's Chocolate, or parents, check out Hub Coffee Roaster next door if you're needing that caffeine fix. Cruise into the heart of downtown Reno and enjoy lunch or dinner at Wild River Grille.

Whatever your family is in the mood for, Wild Island Adventure Park – located in Sparks, across from the Outlets at Legends – has something for the perfect summer day. Bowling, mini golf and go-karts offer endless thrills, while Wild Islands’ indoor arcades and a playplace are a great way to have fun out of the sun. Need to cool off? Wild Island Waterpark provides splashy fun for kids of all ages. Even grown-ups can find some fun by floating down the Lazy River or enjoying a drink at the adults-only Kokomo’s Island Bar.

The Discovery is located in downtown Reno, and is a great way for the whole family to play and have fun, while learning something new along the way. Kids can learn about everything from the human anatomy, to nature art and science. Older children will love to explore the Cloud Climber, while smaller learners can expand their growing minds in the interactive Little Discoveries room.

From the wonders of earth, to those beyond our planet, explore the universe with your family at the Fleischmann Planetarium. Located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, the Fleischmann Planetarium is a hidden gem that will capture your young ones’ imagination, while keeping them away from the summer heat. Kids can explore the immersive Exhibit Hall and get an up close and personal view of Earth, our moon and the entire solar system.

Located north of Reno, Animal Ark is a sanctuary for animals of all kinds. The whole family will enjoy seeing and learning about foxes, wolves, birds of prey, big cats, bears and even a tortoise! On select dates, you can even watch Animal Ark’s resident cheetahs Moyo and Jamar race, showing why exactly they’re the fastest beings on earth. A day at Animal Ark is a great way to keep your kids entertained, all the while supporting the rehabilitation and conservation of some of earth’s most fantastic creatures.

EZ Air will have your kids bouncing off the walls… literally! This two-in-one trampoline park and laser tag arena is the most fun an energetic kid can have, with options for kids of all ages. Their indoor trampoline park allows everyone from little leapers to seasoned jumpers to enjoy the wall-to-wall trampolines in open jump sessions, with group activities like dodgeball, jousting and a climbing wall to maximize the fun. Once they’re done, head on over to the 3,800-square-foot, backlit laser tag arena, where your little sharpshooters can battle it out in a heart-pumping, immersive experience.
