Cindy Prud'homme, AINS, CPIA, CIIP, CLP

Cindy Prud'homme an IT-Supervisor for Meadowbrook Insurance Group in Southfield, Michigan. She has 30+ years of experience in the insurance industry. She holds the AINS, CPIA, CIIP, and CLP designations and is a licensed P&C producer in the state of Michigan.

Many members know Cindy from her 2005-2006 service on the National Board of Directors of AMS Users’ Group (now NetVU), chairing the Sagitta Education Committee. There, she received the President’s Citation for service in 2007 and the James M. Gibson Service Award in 2008. Cindy was a founding member of the Midwest Sagitta Users’ Group, and during her Charter Presidency expanded this ‘local chapter’ to include seven states.

Cindy is a founding member of the Mid-Michigan Association of Insurance Professionals, and was the group’s Charter President in 1997. She holds dual membership in the Insurance Association of Metropolitan Detroit. She is Past Council Director for the Michigan Council of IAIP, having served 2 terms from 2008-2010 and recently served on the IAIP Board of Directors as the Region IV Vice President from 2012-2014. In addition to being a member of the IAIP Board of Directors, Cindy served on the IAIP Budget & Finance Committee, the IAIP Marketing Task Force, the Technology Task Force, and chaired the IAIP Convention Review Task Force.

Cindy has taken Confidence While Communicating two times and has represented the Michigan Council in the Regional competition three times. Cindy is currently serving IAIP as the Michigan Council Director and Chair of the Education Task Force.

Lauri Oakden, RWCS, CLP, Region VIII Vice President

Lauri Oakden has observed and experienced the many changes in the Southwest’s diverse business environment having worked in the risk management industry for 20-plus years. Careers in the legal and medical communities evolved into management positions in the risk management/insurance fields, including managed care and workers’ compensation.

An advocate of professional development, continuing education and mentoring, Lauri enjoys sharing her avid interest in the insurance industry through developing, facilitating and conducting workshops, continuing education classes, mentoring activities and speaking engagements to insurance agencies, industry groups, associations and Chambers of Commerce.

Lauri resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her local association affiliation is with the Las Vegas Insurance Professionals. Community involvement includes participation in projects that make Nevada a great place to live, promote education and foster resources. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the back roads of Route 66; ghost towns, Nevada history, National Parks, junking, travel, and adventures with extended family and friends.

Bob Rembecki

Bob Rembecki has 46 years Insurance Industry experience. In December 2014, he retired from L&W Insurance Agency in Dover, Delaware where he specialized in Risk Management for school districts and colleges. Prior to working for L&W Insurance, he worked for different companies as a Commercial Lines Underwriter and Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager. Bob was an Independent Agent in Reading, Pennsylvania from 1979 to 1993.

Bob has served as a Board Member for CPCU Chapter and was an Advisory Agent for a School Risk Insurer. Bob has been involved with teaching Insurance Programs for over 35 years. He has been an instructor with the CISR Programs since 2007 and has instructed all CPCU Parts, INS 21, 22, 23, CPIA and Associate underwriting courses. He was a Grading Panel Member for CPCU Liability and Property and Associate Risk Management (ARM) Exams offered by the Insurance Institute in Pennsylvania. Bob has conducted seminars on the subject of “Additional Insured Commercial General Liability Policy” and was involved with training new Agents and employees of NGM Insurance Company in Richmond, Virginia. While at L & W Insurance Agency his responsibilities included Continuing Education for 35 licensed employees.

Bob has an Associate of Arts Degree from Goldey Beacom College, Wilmington, Delaware, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance & Insurance, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and an MBA from Averett University, Danville, Virginia. 


Margaret retired from Grange Insurance Companies in 2012 and served in a variety of leadership roles during her 42 year tenure. Her last assignment was as Assistant Vice President of Work/Life Services, overseeing the company’s corporate wellness program, fitness center, cafeteria, service award program, EAP, associate surveys, volunteer program, United Way Campaign, associate meetings, special events and activities. From 2000 - 2007, Margaret supported Grange’s Community Relations efforts. She assisted in overseeing the distribution of Grange’s philanthropic budget, attended various events supporting community efforts and served on committees and tasks forces for a variety of non-profit organizations.

Margaret received her Master’s in Marketing and Communication from Franklin University in January, 2013. Her undergraduate degree, also from Franklin University in Columbus, is in Business Administration. Margaret is a member of the CPCU Society and Sigma Beta Delta, International Honor Society in Business, Management and Administration. Margaret believes in life-long education and completed IAIP’s CLP program and The Institute’s AIS program in 2014. Margaret is currently serving as a Mentor with “Tennessee Promise” which provides the opportunity for every Tennessee high school student to earn a community or technical college credential by offering a last-dollar scholarship and mentor guidance.

Margaret, past IAIP International President 2010/2011, continues to be actively involved in association activities. She’s qualified to teach CLP and other IAIP courses and serves her local association, Insurance Professionals of Greater Knoxville, in a variety of roles. Margaret completed a nine year term, appointed by the Governor as a Commissioner for the Ohio Commission on Service and Volunteerism in April 2013. She was a Trustee for the Homeless Families Foundation, also in Columbus. Margaret was a regular Apheresis (platelet) donor for the American Red Cross and now is a regular Apheresis donor for MEDIC in Knoxville.

Margaret loves to travel, make an occasional trip to the casino and complete counted cross-stitch projects. Margaret and her sister Mary, both Ohio natives, moved to Maryville Tennessee in November, 2013.

Angelia Poyner, CIC, KACSR, CPIA, CLP, CIIP

Angelia M. Poyner, CIC, KACSR, CPIA, CLP, CIIP is the Commercial Lines Manager with Van Zandt, Emrich & Cary, an independent agency located in Louisville, KY. She first joined the organization as an Account Manager in 2009. In addition to managing the Commercial Lines service team she also oversees the automation systems for the agency most recently providing leadership in an agency management system conversion.

Angelia serves as President for the Louisville Association of Insurance Professionals a member of Region IV. She was the nation’s first recipient of the Certified Leadership Professional. Angelia has competed internationally in the IAIP Confidence While Communicating Speak-Off as her Regions’ winner in 2013.

Angelia’s love for insurance began over 10 years ago with her initial experience at an agency in Elizabethtown, KY. She brought to her insurance career a varied background including her project management skills gained through her degree in Theatre Design from Western Kentucky University and a desire to make a difference in others from her service as an elementary school teacher. Just prior to leaping head-first into insurance, she developed leadership and team building abilities as a human resource manager in the retail industry. This combination of experience and character assets has provided Angelia the ability to offer professional service to her clients and bring value to her agency’s fellow team members.

Polly Jones

From 1970 to 1995, Polly was employed in the banking industry and received numerous promotions throughout her career. She served in a variety of positions such as bookkeeper, teller, trainer, training instructor, course developer and training manager.

Polly has worked as an independent producer in the insurance industry since 1996, and is licensed in the areas of life, health, property and casualty. An advocate for the senior market since 1998, Polly has earned both the Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) and the Certified in Long Term Care (CLTC) designations. She went on to achieve the Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) designation in 2000. In 2011 Polly has earned both the Health Insurance Associate (HIA) and the Certified Insurance Industry Professional (CIIP) designations. Polly earned her Securities License in 2013.

Polly has been an active member of IAIP. She served as President for Insurance Women of York in 2001-2002, 2004 -2005 and 2013-2014. Polly has held numerous committee positions on the PA Council level and the Regional level. Polly served as PA Council Director for 2007-2008 and 2011-2012. She has taught numerous workshops and continuing education classes at the NAIW International Conventions as well as Chairing the Communications Committee for 2012-2013.

She is very active within her community where she volunteers with programs such as Junior Achievement, AseraCare Hospice, Susquehanna Senior Center serving as President of the Board of Directors and Water’s Edge Prayer Shawl Ministry with United Methodist Church.

Sandra Emerson, PIAM

Sandy has been employed with NFS-StoneRiver since December 2007.  Her previous positions include working with an MGA in Florida, Marketing/Sales in Florida, Arizona, Nevada, & California, as well agency sales in Florida and New Mexico. Sandy is currently a Regional Field Relations Manager covering Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois. Sandy works with our Client Companies and their field representatives conducting flood training at the agency level. Sandy is one of NFS’s certified continuing education instructors.

As the daughter of a career Army Officer, Sandy has lived in multiple places. She attended high school at Seoul American High in Seoul, Korea, but is a graduate of Brandon High School, Brandon, Florida. A graduate of NVCC in Northern Virginia and she also attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She has held Florida General Lines 220 license for 25 years. Association Memberships include FAIA Associate Member and IAIP Member-at-Large. Sandy currently resides in the Clearwater area. 

Elise Farnham

Chris has been co-principal and vice president of OMEGA Financial Services located in Kirkland, Washington since 1992. She specializes in commercial lines, but is also a licensed life and health agent. Before joining OMEGA, she worked in a variety of positions at SAFECO Insurance Company spending the last 10 years on their management team at the Seattle, Washington home office.

She joined IAIP in 1982 and is currently a member of the Greater Seattle Insurance Professionals. Chris has served in as an officer at every level of IAIP and was the 2004-2005 National President. A Founder’s Club Member of the IAIP Education Foundation, she has also served at the national level on the Education Advisory Panel, Budget and Finance Committee, Horizon Panel, Non Dues Revenue Panel, TIW and Today’s Insurance Professional Advisory Panel, Industry Partnering Panel, E-systems Advisory Panel, Pinnacle Award Task Force, Corporate Partners Task Force and as IAIP International Secretary, Vice President and President Elect. She has also presented workshops at all levels of IAIP.

As chair of the 1993-1994 Seattle Chapter CPCU Research Committee, the committee won the President’s Award of Excellence for their research paper, “Technology, What is the Impact on Customer Service.” Chris has been honored with the Insurance Woman of the Year and Gladys Main Inspirational Award twice at the local level. She was a recipient of the Insurance Professional of the Year at the local and region level. An instructor for CWC, she has won the competitions at the local and state level. Chris is also an AAMGA Award recipient at region and national levels.

Chris is married to John who is also her business partner. They have three boys: Jarrod, JC and James. Jarrod is married to Melanie and they have two children, Keaton and Berkley. Chris says, “I have been there, done that, bought the pin, wore the costume, danced the dance, listened to the music, ran for office-lost-ran again, taught the class, stayed up half the night brainstorming, been the follower and the leader, and I would do it all again.”

Laurie Fite

Laurie Fite never intended to go into insurance. At that time, her dreams were to teach during the day and be a lounge singer in the evenings. The first of those dreams was realized; the second, not so much.

 Laurie’s first position in the insurance field was with Interstate National Insurance Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Her second foray into insurance was a part- time position with Lumbermen’s Underwriting Alliance in Jackson, Mississippi. She began her career there typing loss prevention reports, but within two years was the full-time Office Coordinator. As Lumberman’s Underwriting expanded their offerings through the LIG Insurance Agency, Laurie found herself working with producers to place all types of commercial lines policies and servicing large and small insureds in Louisiana and Mississippi. After 15 years in the Jackson office of Lumberman’s Underwriting, Laurie switched focus and began traveling to offices of the company across the United States auditing office procedures and training office staff.

In 2000, Laurie and her family moved to Greenville, South Carolina and two years later, Laurie joined the Wm. R. Timmons Agency, LLC, a general agent for Canal Insurance Company. There she underwrites and services auto and cargo coverages for trucking and public auto risks while managing the operations of the agency. Insurance education for herself, agents and insureds remains a passion for Laurie. She is a member of the Greenville Association of Insurance where she served as President for two terms and is about to begin her second term as Director for the Insurance Professionals of South Carolina.

Married to her husband, Chris, for over 45 years, Laurie lives in an 85-year old farmhouse outside of Greenville with two dogs and 14 chickens. She is also mother to two adult daughters and grandmother to four very smart and good-looking grandchildren.

Karel Murray

Karel Murray combines her human resource management background with her business, community and association leadership experiences to deliver content that not only informs and educates, but provides practical suggestions mixed with a healthy dose of humor.

Karel holds a BA in Human Resources, is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) and has held executive positions for the national Real Estate Educators Association (REEA) and Blue Springs Missouri Chamber of Commerce. She is an accomplished writer and humorist having authored several books and has been a featured author in many publications. Karel is a member of the National Speakers Association, Meeting Professionals International and Real Estate Educators Association.

Danny Douglas, AINS, AIS, API, ACS, CIIP, DAE

Danny has been a member of IAIP for five years. He is a member of the Insurance Association of the Ozarks from Springfield, Missouri. Danny has received both the Rookie of the Year award and Insurance Professional of the Year award from his local association. He served as the Missouri Council Director for the 2012-2013 year. He has served on and chaired many local committees as well as serving on the National Nominating Committee in 2012. Danny was the chairman of the IAIP President’s Task Force in 2012-2013.

Danny is employed by American National as the manager of the Underwriting Service Operations Transition Unit. In this role, he is responsible for transitioning several existing books of business to a new policy maintenance system. He is also responsible for the training program for new Client Specialists in the company’s Client Service Center. Danny just celebrated his fifteenth anniversary with American National. He has taken many IAIP courses and has earned his Supervision Certificate and Management Certificate from the Management Development Institute at Missouri State University.

Danny serves on the Community Investment Panel of the United Way of the Ozarks, volunteers for various events hosted by Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, and runs marathons as a member of Team World Vision. He also serves on the C-Street Zombie Corps Planning Committee, helping to plan the annual Thriller event in Springfield. In his free time, Danny enjoys teaching yoga, running, travelling, sampling new wines, and watching movies.

Betsey Blimline

Betsey Blimline is the director of marketing for IAIP at Corporate Centre in Atlanta, Georgia. She manages day-to-day marketing projects, the production of the quarterly magazine Today’s Insurance Professionals, the monthly e-Newsletter The Connections, the monthly Leadership Newsletter, marketing campaigns, the IAIP social media platforms, the corporate partnership program and the IAIP web site. Betsey obtained her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Lander University.

Betsey has over 15 years of experience in marketing and corporate communications, about half of that within the non-profit sector. Her passion is pet rescue and she regularly fosters homeless dogs for the Humane Society. She enjoys reading and spending time outdoors with her two children, Katie and Alex and her dogs, Shyla and Finn. She loves to visit the beach, especially the gulf coast, and also enjoys camping.

Kellie Dougherty

Moderator for YNP-Goldtimer Workshop -Kellie Dougherty has been a member of IAIP since 2011 and is an active member of IAIP of Rhode Island where she is currently serving as the President and Rhode Island Council Director. Prior to that, she has been the Vice President for her association and served on or chaired multiple committees. Kellie has also been active at the Regional level and is currently a co-chair of the National YNP Task force. Kellie has been working in the insurance industry since 2004 when she started as a customer service representative for a Rhode Island independent agent. She is currently the Commercial lines Account Manager for Stateline Insurance & Financial Services, an independent agency in Rhode Island. Prior to that she worked for an Excess & Surplus carrier as a Claims Representative for their Lloyds of London Policies.

Leslie Anderson

Leslie Anderson is an approved Continuing Education Instructor for forty-five states. She came to Paul Davis Restoration, Inc. with 10 years of employment in the Insurance Restoration Industry. Leslie has technical knowledge of the Insurance Restoration business and has demonstrated a thorough understanding of the Insurance industry through her marketing skills and her ability to interact with and instruct large groups. She is also an Approved Instructor for IICRC Water Damage Restoration. 

Yvonne Butta

Yvonne Butta has been a dedicated insurance professional for 30 years, with extensive experience in Personal and Commercial Insurance in all lines of business. In addition, she has been directly involved in defense insurance litigation across the United States and served both as an Arbitrator for Arbitration Forums and a Mediator.

Yvonne is a certified insurance instructor for the Insurance Society of Philadelphia, which allows her to teach at her company, clients’ offices, conferences and conventions throughout the United States.

She holds the CPIW, AIC, and DAE designations in addition to having a Property and Casualty Agent’s License. She is currently enrolled in the CPCU Program and working toward earning her Surplus Lines Agent’s License.

Yvonne has been a member of the International Association of Insurance Professionals for 16 years and currently holds the office of Region 1 Board Director of Membership and PA Council Director for 2016 – 2017. She was the recipient of 2012 Claims Professional of the Year Award for Region I and PA Council Board Member of the Year in 2014.

Yvonne works at Vanguard Claim Administration, Inc. located in Woodbury, New Jersey as a Senior Casualty Examiner handling Commercial and Surplus Lines Liability Claims for Certain Underwriters Lloyd’s London. She is also involved in Marketing Projects at her work and insurance education training.

Roy Brandow

Roy Brandow has been in the insurance industry since 1976. He has held various positions in the property/casualty claims area, including Adjuster, Supervisor, and Vice President of Claims Operations for an Independent Adjusting company. At present, Roy is the Training Supervisor for a New Jersey based Third Party Administrator, Vanguard Claims Administration, Inc. He also holds a P&C Agent’s license as well as AIC, PCLA, FCLA and AIS designations.

For over a decade, Roy has been an instructor for the Insurance Society of Philadelphia and has designed and taught several of his own courses. The session, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Claims Handling, presented at the 2016 IAIP Convention was conceived and written by Mr. Brandow in partnership with his co-presenter, Yvonne Butta.

Phyllis Shelton

Phyllis Shelton is the President of LTC Consultants, a 24 year old Nashville-based consulting company specializing in long-term care insurance consumer education and agent training. She is the author of several books, including Protecting Your Family with Long-Term Care Insurance, The ABC’s of Long-Term Care Insurance and Phyllis Shelton’s Worksite Long-Term Care Insurance Toolbox.

Phyllis has spoken to virtually every major industry group, including the Million Dollar Round Table and Worksite Renaissance. She is profiled in publications such as Suze Orman’s The Money Class, and The Savage Truth on Money, by Terry Savage, financial columnist for The Chicago Sun-Times, and The Oprah Magazine as a national resource in the long-term care insurance field. Phyllis received the distinguished LIFE Foundation Client Service Award at the 2009 NAIFA convention. She was profiled as the cover story for the November 2013 issue of Life Insurance Selling in celebration of Long-Term Care Awareness Month and has been interviewed multiple times for Senior Market Advisor, Retirement Advisor and LifeHealthPro.

Formerly a home office marketing manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Phyllis Shelton has 38 years of experience in all phases of health care financing in addition to long-term care insurance: health insurance, managed care (PPOs, HMOs, etc.), Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, cancer insurance, critical illness plans, and life settlements.  

She currently helps consumers nationally who do not have access to a knowledgeable long-term care insurance professional through her agency Got LTCi.

Vicki Harmon

Vicki Harmon began her insurance career in 2001 after transitioning from the State of Tennessee’s Financial and Compliance Audit division. She entered the industry as Bailey Special Risks Staff Accountant and worked her way through Operations Manager and Assistant Vice President to become Vice President, CFO, and one of three owners of the company.

In her educational career, Vickie earned undergraduate degrees in accounting and business administration, and a Masters of Accountancy. In 2011 she earned the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation. Subsequently, she has earned CIIP (Certified Insurance Industry Professional) in 2012, PIAM (Professional in Insurance Account Management) in 2014, and CLP (Certified Leadership Professional) and DAE (Diversified Advanced Education) in 2015.

Vickie joined the Nashville chapter of IAIP in 2009. Since joining, she has held the positions of Director, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, and President and she’s held offices for the Tennessee Council as well including Treasurer, Public Relations Chair, and Council Director. She has served on committees and task forces at the local, council, regional, and international levels. In addition to her IAIP involvement, Vickie is also a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

Away from insurance, Vickie enjoys traveling, karate/kickboxing, reading, running, and volunteering in her local community.Betty joined IAIP in 1989 and is a charter member of the Insurance Professionals of Collier County. She has held all offices on the local level, serving as the local president three times.

Patrick Henry

Customers stay loyal when the business they’re working with creates an emotional connection. Thats the message Patrick Henry, former Nashville songwriter and featured performer on the SiriusXM Radio Family Comedy Channels, wants his audience to take home with them.

Customer loyalty, Henry stresses, is fragile and even though, most insurance professionals deliver similar value, he believes customers will be loyal to those whom they are emotionally connected to. If you can make them feel, you can make them buy.

Growing up in the football town of Auburn, Alabama, Patrick saw firsthand how fans are made. His background, in part, led the the realization that engagement is the foundation for loyalty, and loyalty is the foundation for emotional and financial buy-in.

Henry often says “we learn best when we are being entertained”, and IAIP can look forward to humor, guitar playing, and original songs during his presentation “Becoming Remember-able”. Many of the concepts you will hear can be found in his book “The Pancake Principle: Seventeen Sticky Ways To Make Your Customers FLIP For You” which can be found on When not traveling, Patrick loves spending time with his gorgeous wife Lesley and three semi-adorable children Jack, Robert, and Meredith.

Betty Curry

Betty was the Florida Council Director from 2011 to 2013 and the Region III RVP from 2013 to 2015. She has taken and taught numerous IAIP classes and completed her CLP in December 2014. Betty is a certified continuing education instructor in the state of Florida and teaches classes for her local association, as well as the Florida Council. She has served and chaired numerous committees on the Council, Regional and National level. Betty has been the recipient of several IAIP awards, including local VIP of the Year, local and council Insurance Professional of the Year, local, council and regional Individual Education Achievement, council Distinguished Service and regional TJ Mims.


Serena Corby

Serena Corby, Is an Area Sales Manager for Safelite Auto Glass in the DC Metro Area. She has been with Safelite Auto Glass since 2008. She currently serves as the senior manager on the sales team, and is also one of the trainers for new technician hires team. She is also an intricate part of the sales strategies of business development and marketing for the Safelite Brand in the area.

Serena has been teaching continuing education courses for the past 7 years. She is licensed to teach in all 50 states.

Serena has two boys, Jack and Mason, and is engaged to be married later this year. She resides in Northern Virginia.

Frank Van Zant

Frank Van Zant has served in all areas of the cleaning restoration industry and has been employed with Steamatic for 41 years. For the past 23 years he has served as Steamatic's Director of Training and Education.

Frank is an Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) Accredited Instructor for the Carpet Cleaning, Fire Damage Restoration, Mold Remediation and Water Damage Restoration courses and holds the Master Certification Designations in Fire, Water Damage Restoration, Textiles and Mold Remediation. Additionally his certifications include ACAC Certified Microbial Remediator and NADCA Air Conveyance Systems Specialist.

Frank has participated in the development of these restoration industry Standards:
IICRC/ANSI S500 Water Damage
IICRC/ANSI S520 Mold Remediation Standards
And serves on the RIA Advisory Committee on the Fire Damage Standard.

Frank is also the national coordinator for Steamatic Continuing Education Courses for the Insurance Industry and has been teaching CE courses for over 25 years.

Jack Kennedy

Mr. Kennedy is a Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) with the International Association of Arson Investigators, a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI) with the National Association of Fire Investigators, and a Certified Fire Investigator (NCCFI) with the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission. Mr. Kennedy is a Licensed Private Investigator with the North Carolina Board of Private Protective Services and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. He served as a Fire Investigator with the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force where he investigated and determined the origin and cause of more than 1100 fires to include commercial structures, residential structures, and vehicles. Mr. Kennedy has testified and been qualified as an expert witness in court proceedings and depositions involving the investigation of fire. In addition to his investigative experience, Mr. Kennedy has more than 21 years of combined military and public safety experience. He also has extensive experience as a Firefighter and Fire Captain in fire suppression operations.
